The House of Kaplin: Chapter 1.1

Picture

The Humble Beginnings of a Great House

Picture

On a quiet island in a distant ocean, a man had found the perfect plot of land to settle upon to begin building his legacy.

Picture

Though it wasn’t much to look at, it would soon become a sprawling estate upon which his family would flourish. Or, so he hoped.

Picture

Our founding father, Connor Kaplin, was excited to start this new adventure. Having come from a background that he couldn’t remember, he wanted to make sure that his future generations would be remembered forever.

Picture

His first point of call was to immerse himself with the local culture, and so he decided to scope out the local groups and see which ones would fit him best.
‘We’re of the Avant Garde variety: writers, artists, creatives, you know,’ the man in the hideous mustard jacket told him.
‘I aspire to be a best-selling author!’ Connor replied.

Picture

They bonded over a spot of cloud gazing, because everyone knows that this is the best way to make friends – especially ones who are creatively inclined.

Picture

The other members of Avant Garde proved to be an eclectic bunch. Connor hoped that he would be deemed worthy enough to join them.

Picture

‘I would really like to join your group,’ Connor said to the leader, a rather strange looking woman.
‘You do seem well suited for us,’ she replied.
And just like that, he was in.

Picture

With his acceptance into the group complete, Connor took it upon himself to use their super secret room to use the computer. He began with a job search – nabbing an opening in Writing, naturally – and then practiced his writing skills until it was time to head back to his home.

Picture

His home which was very much still a work in progress for the time being…

Picture

With barely a moment to get dressed, Connor made an attempt to get to know his neighbours the next morning before his carpool showed up for work.

Picture

Connor couldn’t quite believe that all his work asked him to do was read books to help with his promotions. He had expected writing to come into it somewhere.

Picture

As he went to more group gatherings, Connor found himself admiring Yuki from afar more and more.

Picture

The other eligible ladies in the area hadn’t quite managed to catch his eye. Even though there were a lot of them.

Picture

Putting down roots was a lot harder than Connor had anticipated and with such low funds, pizza was his diet for several months to begin with.

Picture

‘You’re late! I’m starving in here and you just dawdled up my pathway. Is this even still warm?’ Connor demanded of the delivery lady when she was half an hour later than expected.

Picture

‘I will be informing your manager of this!’
Connor was not the most patient of men when it came to his food.

In his free time, after reading the required books for work, Connor would dance. However, he was perhaps the worst dance machine anyone had ever seen.

Picture

‘Hey Yuki! Thanks for meeting up with me. So, how about it: You, me, coffee?’

Picture

‘You know I’m only 16, right?’
